At the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Dmytro Kuleba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, is on an official three-day visit to China . The main purpose is to discuss possible ways to end Russian aggression and China’s role in establishing a stable and just peace.

Since the beginning of the war, China has announced its intention to mediate  between Russia and Ukraine in its peace negotiations.  However, the West is suspicious of this, considering Beijing to be Russia’s partner in changing the world order.  Despite this, it is China that has significant leverage over Russia, which can become a decisive factor in achieving peace.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhiy Tykhyi, has emphasized that the main topic of the discussions would be the search for ways to achieve peace.  Dmytro Kuleba has emphasized that the conversation about peace in Ukraine was worth any effort.  He noted that the negotiations would be substantive, focused on achieving peace in Ukraine, and that it was necessary to avoid competing peace plans.  This is the only way to achieve a just and sustainable peace.

China, as one of the most influential world powers, has a unique opportunity to contribute to the peaceful resolution of the conflict.  Beijing can use its diplomatic and economic leverage to convince Russia of the need for negotiations.  This will be an important step in achieving a lasting peace that takes into account the interests of all parties to the conflict.

Beijing has long struggled to maintain a balance between its strategic interests and its willingness to mediate. Thus, it is important that China continue to make efforts to achieve a just peace, avoiding competing peace plans.  This would allow all efforts to be focused on a unified, joint plan that would ensure stability and fairness of the peace process.

Against the background of global challenges, such as hybrid, cyber, space and other threats, China should support the efforts of Ukraine and the international community in achieving a just peace.  This will create a stable international environment that will contribute to the development and prosperity of all countries.
