The frame of the draft law on asylum and immigration has been communicated to the associations who care about migrants and refugees. At the first meeting between Edouard Philippe and the world of aid to migrants, the Prime Minister promised that they have the text developed by the Ministry of the Interior before meeting again. Even if the associations do not expect much, the meeting on Thursday is supposed to open and close a “consultation”. Emmanuel Macron is, indeed, expected on Tuesday 16 January, to announce the conclusions. The two most commented elements of the first versions of the law were the doubling of the duration of administrative detention and the establishment of a list of safe third countries to justify referrals without examination of the file. The first point is still in the text sent today, but the second was removed by decision of the Head of State. Still, this frame only gives the main lines. The letter accompanying the Vademecum states that “the questions relating to the December 12 file on the Review of Administrative Situations will be examined in a specific follow-up group proposed by the Prime Minister”.
