/

One day after the NEA announcement of the upcoming elections’ timeline, 490 members of the Egyptian Parliament signed the recommendation forms to support Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s candidacy, although the President has still not announced his nomination. According to the article 142 of the Egypt’s constitution each candidate must have the recommendation of at least 20 members, or 25 000 citizens from 15 governorates, and each member is allowed to recommend just one candidate. Among those who supported El-Sisi there are the parliament speaker Abdel-Aal, the head of the media, culture and antiquities committee Osama Heikal, and also several members of opposition, including Nasserist Kamal Ahmed and Wafdist Mohamed Khalifa.
